Q First read the requirements for the Current Event Paper, and then select an event. Watch the news, read the newspaper, browse the websites below, and browse the internet to find a current event topic that interests you. You will need to choose a specific thing that recently happened, and this event should lead to a larger societal issue topic. This topic should be a social issue that people take various stances on. Your event should have taken place with the past 4 months. For example: Event: George Floyd’s death (this is something specific that happened – event) Issue: Police Brutality in the United States (this is the larger issue that can be discussed because of the event) Write a paragraph giving the specific details of the event and why you think it is an important event. Be sure to provide a link of the event. Next, write a second paragraph which explains what the larger societal issue is regarding this event. Identify what the different viewpoints are on the societal issues (be sure to list 2-5 since this will make up the body of your upcoming paper). Note: Some societal issues do not have clear for or against stances. For example, people are not for child abuse; however, some people may have varying viewpoints on the definition of abuse. Think of viewpoints rather than stance since most issues are more complicated than for or against thinking. Post your topic proposal to the appropriate discussion board. Once it is posted, respond to at least two of your peers’ posts. What do you think of their ideas? Can you think of more viewpoints? Do you have any suggestions for them?
